Momster: I want to ask you guys a few questions about the earth and the environment, and pollution.

Georgia: And shoes on the wire! And I’ll tell you now in fact. Shoes on the wire are for silliness!

(We had passed some guerilla art, visible all over town, various pairs of shoes — not just your usual sneakers, but high heels and cowboy boots, this time a pair of oxfords — slung over the power lines.)

Momster: Yes, that’s true! But let’s talk about the environment now.

Baxter: Oh...
Happy Bike to Work Week! Did you cycle to work today? If you didn't, don't worry — you still have a couple days left. In fact, tomorrow, May 15, is Bike to Work Day — so if you can only bike to work one day this month, make it tomorrow. Lots of bike-related activities are happening across the US. Check out the League of American Bicyclists event calendar to find out what's going on near you. One caveat: The calendar isn't comprehensive, so if you don't see your city listed, get in touch with...
This summer, eco-minded music-lovers, musicians, and organizers are doing everything in their power to push for a truly green festival experience — right down to the dirty details like recycled toilet paper in the porta-potties.

With good reason: the environmental footprints of these events are dinosaur-sized. Last year’s Bonnaroo festival generated more than one million pounds of waste, an amount equal to the household hazardous waste collected in Louisiana in the...
Pop stars and big cars can have long retained a powerful hold on the hearts of impressionable music fans. Each glitzy, each sexy, each high maintenance and each photogenic, they've shared the spotlight for decades, on tour and on MTV. But a fresh undercurrent of musical culture is reinventing what's cool - and it doesn't run on gasoline. Around the country, musicians are embracing pedal-power, biking from show to show, city to city, even nation to nation. The movement...
“Maa-aah-MEE-ee!” Georgia now needs four syllables to say Mommy, “May we pleeease go to a rest’urant? We haven’t been to a rest’urant for a long time!”

It’s true, we used to eat out a lot, but now, due to budget constraints and an effort to eat more carefully and nutritionally, we have put the kibosh on dining out. And oh how we miss it! For some reason, even though I am always thinking about what we are putting into our systems here at home, when we go out it’s like the Amnesia Fairy waved...
I have always had a weak spot for Target, but since I’ve become a bit more aware, and since Georgia has become more difficult in stores designed to lure her into a consumer-kid-frenzy, we just don’t go there anymore. I always found it very hard to resist some fabulous-looking thingamajigg when all I really needed was toilet paper. And since I am trying to teach Georgia about need vs. want, and how stores, ads and marketing are targeting us, I find it much easier to avoid a store that manages to...
but it's hard to live up to some of the amazing things true bike-modification geeks do with theirs. The hardcore bike mod junkies have created such two-wheeled masterpieces as
